Dr. Alfred Hall is Assistant Dean of the College of Education at The University of Memphis where he provides leadership in student success and strategic initiatives.  He also serves as an Assistant Professor of Science Education and helps direct the College’s STEM Education initiatives, as well.
In his role, Dr. Hall serves on the Dean’s Leadership Council, the College of Education’s Strategic Planning Committee, and the University’s Strategic Enrollment and Retention Committee.  He also serves as a member of the Research Advisory Council for the University’s Diversity Initiative to improve graduation and completion rates for African-American males.

Dr. Hall has held key leadership positions in K-12 and higher education in the Memphis community.  He has served previously as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Chief Academic Officer, and Chief of Staff for the former Memphis City Schools, and he has served a brief stint as Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at LeMoyne-Owen College.

As a faculty member at The University of Memphis, Dr. Hall has received more than $3 million in grants to support STEM education and was the recipient of the prestigious NSF Career Award for research.  He is a member of the Board of Trustees for Memphis Public Libraries and is a former Trustee member of the Memphis Museum System, which includes the Pink Palace Museum.

Dr. Hall has been a featured speaker at many local, regional, and national conferences and has been invited twice to speak at STEM education conferences and symposia in Belgium.  A native of Greenwood, MS, Dr. Hall began his career as a high school teacher of biology at his former high school.  He earned his B.S. in biology from Jackson State University, a Master of Science in Natural Science degree from Delta State University in Cleveland, MS, and the Ph.D. in Science Education with an emphasis in education leadership from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
